Local Campaigns
A number of campaigns have been implemented to raise awareness of the project at the local level.
Press
The mission will be widely reported in the press. UNEP will ensure that regular press releases are circulated to local, national and international news teams, advising of the most up-to-date mission information.
Local media
Regular interviews will be scheduled with local television and radio stations – allowing for details of the mission to be broadcast to a wider audience. Popular talk shows and phone-in programmes have proved to be an effective tool for communicating at a grassroots level in previous UNEP missions.
Posters and leaflets
A series of eye-catching posters and leaflets will be distributed in local communities, advising of the UNEP project and progress.
English, Pidgin
and regional languages will be used.
Environmental awareness
A campaign to raise environmental awareness will be implemented in various strategic locations in the local community – such as schools, churches and through NGOs.
Other grassroots methods
UNEP will also make use of less conventional verbal and physical information-providing methods such as public speakers, town criers and street theatre performance.
